For some people, holding or possessing a $2 bill is considered to be bad_luck. How this superstition came about is unclear; however, it is not unusual to find people that will continue to voice their conviction that the $2 bill is unlucky. As a result, a subsequent belief is that the bad luck embedded within the note can be_dispelled_by_tearing_off_a_corner_of_the_bill. Therefore, it is not unusual to find $2 bills in circulation with one or more corners missing from the currency.
