NPR에 따르면, 오스카상 수상 배우이자 정치적 발언을 해 온 모건 프리먼은 최근 한 인터뷰에서 미국엔 아직 흑인 대통령이 없다고 했다 한다.
"First thing that always pops into my head regarding our president is that all of the people who are setting up this barrier for him ... they just conveniently forget that Barack had a mama, and she was white — very white American, Kansas, middle of America,"
"There was no argument about who he is or what he is. America's first black president hasn't arisen yet. He's not America's first black president — he's America's first mixed-race president."
사람들은 오바마 대통령이 백인 어머니를 가졌다는 것을 잊곤 한다.
미국의 한 복판, 캔자스에서 태어난 너무나도 백인인 어머니다.
오바마가 어떤 사람이며 누군지에 대해선 논란의 여지가 없다.
그러나, 오바마는 첫번 째 흑인 미국대통령이 아니고, 첫번 째 혼혈 미국대통령이다.
"He is being purposely, purposely thwarted by the Republican Party, who started out at the beginning of his tenure by saying, 'We are going to do whatever is necessary to make sure that he's only going to serve one term,' "
"That means they will not cooperate with him on anything. So to say he's ineffective is a misappropriation of the facts."
오바마는 공화당에 의해 의도적으로 반대를 위한 반대로 좌절되곤했다.
공화당은 오바마를 단임으로 끝내기 위한 모든 것을 하겠다고, 오마바의 임기 시작 때부터 공언해 왔다.
즉 오바마에 어떠한 협력도 하지 않겠다는 것이었다.
"오바마가 (대통령으로서) 효과적이이 않았다고 하는 비난은, (공화당의 반대를 위한 반대) 사실에 대한 오역일 뿐이다"
