리비아 미대사관 사건으로 덕 좀 보려던 미국 공화당 대통령후보 밋 롬니는 오바마 대통령으로부터 CBS News와의 인터뷰에서 공개적인 면박을 받아야 했다.
“(He) seems to have a tendency to shoot first, aim later,(일단 저지르고 본다)”
그리고 서비스 차원에서 이런 훈계도 주었다.
“As president, one of the things I’ve learned is you can’t do that -- that, you know, it’s important for you to make sure that the statements that you make are backed up by the facts (말하기 전에 하려는 말이 사실임을 먼저 확인해야만 한다), and that you’ve thought through the ramifications before you make them,”
한편, 조지 더블유 부시 정부에서 국무부 차관으로 일한 공화당 거물 리처드 아미타지도 밋 롬니에게 이번 일을 두고두고 상기해야 한다고 조언했다.
“This should be his mantra, so he can speak in a deliberate manner, and not have to repent at his leisure later.(나중에 두고두고 후회 한다)”
