알제리아 인질사태로 금요일 예정이었던 영국 수상 데이비드 캐머론의 암스테르담 연설이 취소되었고, 대신 목요일에 사전 배포됐던 연설문이 보도됐다. 중요 내용은;
"There is a gap between the EU and its citizens which has grown dramatically in recent years and which represents a lack of democratic accountability and consent that is felt particularly acutely in Britain."
(EU와 시민 사이의 견해차가 최근 수 년간 커지고 있는데, 이는 민주적 신뢰와 동의의 부족으로 보이고, 영국에게 특별히 민간한 사안이다.")
"If we don't address these challenges, the danger is that Europe will fail and the British people will drift towards the exit."

"People are increasingly frustrated that decisions taken further and further away from them mean their living standards are slashed through enforced austerity or their taxes are used to bail out governments on the other side of the continent," he was intending to argue."

이에 대해 프랑스출신 한 유럽의회의원은 이렇게 비난했다; "EU는 착한 애 , 못된 애가 모두 있는 교실같다. 영국은 교실에서 가장 못된 놈이 되는 걸 자랑스러워 하는 것 같다. 영국은 이제 남을 건지 탈퇴할 건지 결정해야 한다. 지금까지의 양다리 걸치기(one foot in and the other foot out)는 더이상은 곤란하다." 한편, 카메론 수상과 영국 보수당은 2015년 이전 영국의 유럽연합 잔류/탈퇴 결정 국민투표에 부정적인 입장이고, 노동장은 불확실성 제거를 위해 조기 실시를 원하고 있다. 원문기사
